UoPeople Processing Fees

University of the People is a tuition-free, non-profit institution. The University does not charge students to take classes, does not charge for any reading and other study materials, and does not charge for annual enrollment. As a non-profit academic institution dedicated to opening access to higher education, UoPeople has succeeded in cutting down almost the entire cost of higher education. Readings and course materials are available online, free of charge for each and every registered student. We will remain tuition-free, meaning students will not be charged for their educational instruction, course materials or annual enrollment.

In order to remain sustainable, we charge small processing fees for application and examination processing. However, for those individuals who are unable to pay their Exam Processing Fees, UoPeople has a variety of scholarship funds designed to meet the unique needs of its students.

Application Processing Fee:

University of the People charges a non-refundable Application Processing Fee in the range of $10 - $50, based on the applicant's place of residence.  The University charges an Application Processing Fee in order to cover the cost of processing each application as well as remain sustainable.

The Application Processing Fee Table by Country / Place of Residence can be found in the enrollment agreement

Exam Processing Fee:

University of the People charges an Exam Processing Fee ($100) per each end-of-course-exam, in order to cover the cost incurred by the University to process exams. Applicants who are admitted and become students, are expected to pay this fee. However, for those students who are unable to do so, UoPeople has a variety of scholarship funds available. Our aim, as it has always been, is to see to it that no qualified student will be denied the right to access higher education due to financial reasons. We will remain tuition-free, meaning students will not be charged for their educational instruction, course materials or annual enrollment.

The determination of processing fees, as well as any University Grants or University Financial Aid, is at the sole discretion of UoPeople. University Grants and processing fees are currently determined using publicly available data from the World Bank and the CIA World Fact Book. Inclusion of a place of residence in the list does not imply any legal position of University of the People regarding its status. The University reserves the right to change the cost of the Exam Processing Fee. The amount of the Exam Processing Fee will be reviewed annually, and any change to the fee amount will be implemented as of September 1 each year. Students will be notified of the change in fees no later than June 1 each year.

Refund Information: As University of the People currently does not charge tuition for programs, there are currently no tuition refunds available to students. You have the right to withdraw from a course of instruction at any time. The Application Processing Fee, and the Student Tuition Recovery Fund fee paid by residents of California are nonrefundable. The Exam Processing Fee is not refundable for students who undertake the exam. Students who drop or withdraw from a course within the required deadlines are not required to pay the Examination Processing Fee. In addition, students who pay the Exam Processing Fee and do not take the exam will be awarded a refund upon request. For further information, please see the Enrollment Agreement

Additional information regarding University of the People's refund policy:

You have the right to withdraw from a course of instruction at any time. If you withdraw after midnight of the eighth business day after the first day you received your first lesson, the University will calculate the amount of your tuition refund on a pro rata basis depending on how many credit hours you attended versus how many credit hours you paid for.  Only tuition is refundable; the Application Processing Fee and the Student Tuition Recovery Fund fee paid by residents of California are nonrefundable. The Exam Processing Fee is only refundable in instances where you do not take the exam. If the amount you paid is more than the amount you owe for the time you attended, a refund will be made within 30 days.  If the amount you owe is more than the amount you have already paid, you will have to make arrangements for payment. If you received federal student financial aid funds, you are entitled to a refund of moneys not paid from federal student financial aid program funds.

The withdrawal date for refund computation is your last date of attendance in class.  You are also deemed to have withdrawn for refund purposes, if the institution terminates your enrollment as provided for in section 3above. You are not required to return any materials to receive a refund to which you are entitled.

Refunds are calculated as follows:

(1)    Divide the course tuition paid by the number of lessons in the course to find the Per-Lesson Charge;

(2)    Multiply the Per-Lesson Charge by the number of lessons that have been received by the student;

(3)    The refund shall be the course tuition paid by the student minus the amount determined above.

AS UNIVERSITY OF THE PEOPLE CURRENTLY DOES NOT CHARGE TUITION FOR PROGRAMS, THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO TUITION REFUNDS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS.
