Dr. Roxie R. Smith
Vice Provost, Academic Development
Dr. Roxie R. Smith is the Vice Provost for Academic Development of University of the People. Dr. Roxie R. Smith has been associated with UoPeople since 2012 and brings to her volunteer role extensive experience in higher education administration. At Columbia University in the City of New York she served as Vice Provost working on day-today operational activities, including international linkages, interactions with deans and oversight of various central academic units.
Before becoming Vice Provost, she spent eight years as the Associate Vice President for Arts and Sciences for eight years and was responsible for operational oversight of academic affairs and budget. Prior to moving to Columbia, she was at Northwestern University in Illinois where she was the Associate Provost for six years focusing on faculty affairs and budget; she was also the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Education and Social Policy for eight years before that.
Before joining Northwestern, she was the Assistant Executive Director of the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education based in Chicago where she oversaw the national continuing education provider approval program. Prior to that, she was a Program Analyst in the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina General Administration working in system-wide program planning and evaluation. She earned her doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
