UN Cooperation
University of the People is working with the United Nations on several initiatives to ensure global access to higher education.
UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture. UoPeople works with UNESCO to educate at-risk populations by giving them access to higher education.
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, UNESCO launched The Global Education Coalition, a platform designed for collaboration and exchange in order to protect every person’s inherent right to education. More than 140 members, including UoPeople, have come together from the UN, civil society, academia and the private sector to ensure that #LearningNeverStops.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. University of the People shares these values and is a member of the Global Refugee Forum Tertiary Education task team, helping refugees gain access to higher education.
United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is an initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in supporting and contributing to the realization of United Nations goals and mandates, including the promotion and protection of human rights, access to education, sustainability and conflict resolution. University of the People is a member of UNAI, helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, works to build a better world for every child, every day, everywhere. UNICEF provides more children with clean water, life-saving food and vaccines, education, and protection from violence than any other humanitarian organization.
As part of our partnership, UNICEF provides access to three centers to accommodate up to 90 students. Each student has access to a computer or laptop and internet connection for about 15 hours a week, per course taken
