Pasadena, CA. November 20, 2016 University of the People (“UoPeople”), based in Pasadena, California, has announced that it will offer together with its Vietnamese partner EDCATA, 20 scholarships to Vietnamese students to study tuition-free toward its American accredited degrees at the university’s virtual campus. Associates and bachelor degree programs are available in business administration, computer science and health science, in addition to an MBA.

Shai Reshef, President of University of the People – the world’s first non-profit, tuition-free, accredited American online university, will be in Vietnam for two special informational events, on Sunday in Ho Chi Minh City and Tuesday in Hanoi, for current students and prospective applicants. At the events, which are being put on in collaboration with EDCATA and EducationUSA, Reshef will talk about studying online and about unique scholarship opportunities for Vietnamese students and on ground support in Vietnam as well as the opportunity of transferring to studying at university campuses in the U.S.

“UoPeople has grown over 500% in Asia since 2014,” says Reshef. “Because of the strong demand we have received from Vietnamese applicants, and because the Vietnamese students studying with us are exemplary students, we decided that I would come personally to Vietnam to meet our students and potential applicants and to announce that together with EDCATA we are proud to offer 20 scholarships to Vietnamese students.”

EDCATA was founded by Vietnamese students, alumni and PhDs from MIT, Harvard, and NUS (Singapore). Its mission is to enable young Vietnamese to gain access to international English tertiary education, specifically to complete the application process to University of the People. EDCATA facilitates one-to-one mentoring to UoPeople students from Vietnamese alumni who are working abroad.

University of the People is changing the way online learning is perceived through alliances with prestigious educational institutions (such as Yale University for research and New York University and University of California Berkeley for accepting students) and partnerships with global corporations (such as Hewlett-Packard for internships and Microsoft for scholarships). The University has enrolled students from 180 different countries to date. The unique focus is on small international classes, peer interaction and personalized attention with qualified instructors.
