That’s why, Innocent Tshilombo, a UoPeople student who fled the Democratic Republic of Congo to Kenya after several of his family members were killed, decided to do something about it. He built a solar-powered internet kiosk so that he and the other refugees in his camp could connect to the outside world. The device enabled Innocent to apply for a scholarship to UoPeople and earn a bachelor’s degree. For his innovative work, Innocent won the 2022 Ashden Award, a prestigious international prize for sustainable energy projects. Recently he began working on his MBA with us.
