Umar’s mother nurtured his love of reading and learning as he grew up in a Pakistani village near Chawinda. However, when he started school Umar found it difficult to stay engaged. So, after completing his exams he set off to find work in Saudi Arabia.

However, Umar struggled to find a job without a college degree. “I thought I could find meaningful work even without a college degree, but I quickly learned the hard way,” Umar reflects.

Realizing the importance of a college degree, Umar began looking for online university options that could provide him with the flexibility he needed. “I am so glad I found University of the People. I decided to join and pursue an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science,” he says.

What’s the best part of studying at UoPeople? Well, if you ask Umar, it’s the flexibility. Because there are no live courses and you can study at anytime from anywhere Umar is earning his degree on his own schedule. “It’s helped me to balance my work, school, and family responsibilities,” he told us with a smile.

When Umar first enrolled in his degree program at University of the People, he didn’t have specific career goals in mind. After progressing through his studies, he has realized his potential and developed new dreams.

Umar shared with us, “To achieve my dreams and pursue my future career I had to seek out work experience, learn new skills, and put myself out there in a new way. This process has given me a strong foundation of valuable skills that I believe will be integral to my future success.”

A key to being successful in his studies at UoPeople? “I appreciate the support and guidance of the advisors and instructors. The peer-to-peer learning system has helped me to connect with students across the globe and enhanced my understanding of the study material.”

Umar can’t say enough about the support and networking opportunities. “The learning system at UoPeople is wonderful. The program advisors have consistently shown care and support, making me feel like part of the UoPeople family,” he adds.

After completing his degree, Umar hopes to pursue a Master’s of Science in Information Technology and eventually a Doctorate.

What does Umar want to do in the future? “Once I’ve completed my computer science degree, I am eager to give back to University of the People by volunteering as an instructor. Not only do I want to express my gratitude for the opportunities I have been given, but I also believe in the power of paying it forward.”

As he looks towards his future, Umar is confident that the skills and experiences he has gained at University of the People will serve him well in his professional endeavors. He encourages others to consider online education as a viable and rewarding route toward success.
